Sick
Medical System in Hong Kong is different from other countries e.g. Germany.
If you have a medical insurance in Hong Kong, you need to check first, which doctor has a contract for “cooperation” with which insurance company. If he has, then you can show your medical card at the reception and you pay only a small amount. From my experience these doctors, who has a “contract for cooperation”, are not “honest”. Since they cannot earn so much more money, they give you some medicine, which is NOT helpful. You are forced to come back and ask for new medicine.
In such case it is better not to show your medical card. It is better – from my experience – to pay the full amount of the medication and consultation first and claim them back later on.
Meanwhile I am attending doctors, which do not have any “coorperation contract” with my medical insurance company. They are a little bit more expensive (> 300 HKD), but I know I can rely on them and they do not treat me wrong or give me wrong medicine. Later on II claim the costs to my medical insurance company.
Here I would like to mention some doctors I am attending. When I arrive in HKG, I did not know which doctor is good and I was very happy to receive honest recommendations. I have attended a lot of doctors and in my opinion following docs are good and honest.
Hopefully you will never get seriously sick, please take care!
