Sun eclipse 2012

21st of May was THAT day in HKG. On that day we should be able to see the rare sun eclipse between 5:30am and 7:30am. My friends and I decided not to miss this chance, because if we missed the chance, the next opportunity would be only in year 2320. Thus, we felt very excited.

Early in the morning at around 4:30am I woke up and rushed from my home to TST’s avenue of stars, where I met my friends, as neither public transportation nor taxi were available on the still sleeping empty streets. Although we arrived very early, the avenue had been filled with people already. It seemed everyone was very excited. Everyone did not want to miss the chance to see the sun eclipse. Everyone was holding the special sun glasses, which had been distributed for free, ready to see the sun eclipse. We had been waiting and starring the sky for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, one hour. But nothing happened… the sun eclipse could not be seen, as the weather was too cloudy. What a pity!

Shortly after 7am the sky had been “opened”. It looks like clouds pushed some clouds away, created a hole in the cloudy sky, so that some sun shine could escape. Look at that! What a nice great view!! And what a great surprise, we could see instead of the expected sun eclipse.

Few minutes later, we could see for few seconds the last moments of the sun eclipse. It was amazing!!! It was worth to wake up that early!!

Afterwards, we had some breakfast in TST and everyone of us was heading with huge smile to office. What a great start of the day!

Did you also see the sun eclipse?
