When I was stepping into the MTR- shop shortly before 11pm, I recognized that the lady behind the cashier was counting the money. So I stepped back and checked the door – well, there was not any sign mentioning this shop is closed. I was wondering, whether the shop is opened or closed. In order to make sure I asked. (N= Nobu, L=lady in the shop)

N: Excuse me, are you still opened?
L: No.
Somehow this answer did not convince me at all. Much more, I had the feeling, that the lady does not speak English. Thus, I asked again.
N: Are you closed?
L: No.
N: Are you opened or closed?
L: No.
At that moment, I DID know that she does not speak any English. But I wanted to make sure…
N: Do you speak English?
L: No.
Somehow I suddenly had fun to ask her questions, which she can answer with “No”, so I kept on asking.
N: Do you understand what I am talking about?
L: No.
N: Do you think today’s business was good?
L: No.
N: I am going home now.
L: No.
N: Oh, great, you would like that I stay, right? Or did I misunderstand you?
L: No.
